Season 5

Taylor Hicks (Winner)

Successful? NO

As of June 2008, Taylor is now signed to Vanguard Records. They plan to distribute his next album, which will be cut on his own record label, Modern Whomp Records. At this time, he is also starring in Grease on Broadway as the Teen Angel.

Katharine McPhee (Runner-Up)

Successful? YES

On February 2, 2008, Katharine married 43-year-old boyfriend Nick Cokas. On June 12, 2008, it was announced that Katharine and Room For Two will be releasing a song for the newest Barbie movie. The song is entitled "Connected" and a music video will be shot to be included on the movie's DVD as a special feature. The DVD comes out September 9. According to MTV, Katharine will start shooting an indie film called "Success" in November. It has also been announced that she will star in the indie suspense thriller, The Storyteller. Filming is scheduled to begin in early summer 2008 in Philadelphia.

Elliott Yamin (Third Place)

Successful? YES

Elliott's self-titled album, released March 20, 2007, debuted at no. 1 on the Billboard Top Independent Albums chart and at no. 3 on the Billboard 200. The album was certified gold in the United States in October 2007. May 2008, Elliott went to Japan to promote the release of his debut album in that country in some radio interviews; he expects to go back there later in 2008.

Chris Daughtry (Fourth Place)

Successful? YES

After his fallout from Idol, Chris was given a record deal by RCA Records, along with 19 Entertainment. His band's self-titled debut album sold more than 1 million copies after just 5 weeks of release. In its ninth week of release, the album reached number one on the Billboard charts. Chris is the fourth most successful American Idol contestant in the history of the show, in terms of record sales, behind Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, and Clay Aiken.

Paris Bennett (Fifth Place)

Successful? NO

Paris released her debut album Princess P on 306 Entertainment/TVT Records in 2007. Her second album is set to be released in November of 2008. It was announced in June 2008 that Paris is expecting her first child in October 2008.

Kellie Pickler (Sixth Place)

Successful? YES

Kellie has been signed to BNA Records as a recording artist, with her debut album Small Town Girl being released in late 2006. Following the release of the third single (Things That Never Cross a Man's Mind) from her debut album, Kellie returned to the studio to work on her sophomore album

Ace Young (Seventh Place)

Successful? NO

On May 12, 2008 Ace appeared on FOX's hit show Bones alongside season six American Idol Contestant, Brandon Rogers. His self-titled debut album was released in July 2008.

Bucky Covington (Eigth Place)

Successful? YES

In December 2006, Bucky signed a recording contract with Lyric Street Records; his self-titled debut album was released on April 17, 2007. The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart. As of 2008, the album has produced the #6 country hit "A Different World" and the #11 "It's Good to Be Us".
